چکیده

We explore the compact U(1) lattice gauge theory with staggered fermions and gauge field action − ∑ P [β cos(ΘP ) + γ cos(2ΘP )], both for dynamical fermions and in the quenched approximation. (ΘP denotes the plaquette angle.) In simulations with dynamical fermions at various γ ≤ −0.2 on 64 lattices we find the energy gap at the phase transition of a size comparable to the pure gauge theory for γ ≤ 0 on the same lattice, diminishing with decreasing γ. This suggests a second order transition in the thermodynamic limit of the theory with fermions for γ below some finite negative value. Studying the theory on large lattices at γ = −0.2 in the quenched approximation by means of the equation of state we find non-Gaussian values of the critical exponents associated with the chiral condensate, β ≃ 0.32 and δ ≃ 1.8, and determine the scaling function. Furthermore, we evaluate the meson spectrum and study the PCAC relation.

Su(n) Antiferromagnets and the Phase Structure of Qed in the Strong Coupling Limit

We examine the strong coupling limit of both compact and non-compact quantum electrodynamics (QED) on a lattice with staggered Fermions. We show that every SU(NL) quantum antiferromagnet with spins in a particular fundamental representation of the SU(NL) Lie algebra and with nearest neighbor couplings on a bipartite lattice is exactly equivalent to the infinite coupling limit of lattice QED wit...

Staggered fermions and chiral-symmetry breaking in transverse lattice regulated QED.

Staggered fermions are constructed for the transverse lattice regularization scheme. The weak perturbation theory of transverse lattice non-compact QED is developed in lightcone gauge, and we argue that for fixed lattice spacing this theory is ultraviolet finite, order by order in perturbation theory. However, by calculating the anomalous scaling dimension of the link fields, we find that the i...

Su(n) Antiferromagnets and Strongly Coupled Qed: Effective Field Theory for Josephson Junctions Arrays

We review our analysis of the strong coupling limit of compact QED on a lattice with staggered Fermions. We show that, for infinite coupling, compact QED is exactly mapped in a quantum antiferromagnet. We discuss some aspects of this correspondence relevant for effective field theories of Josephson junctions arrays. This work is supported in part by a grant from the M.U.R.S.T.. M.C.D. and P.S. ...

Noncompact lattice QED with two charges: Phase diagram and renormalization group flow.

The phase diagram of non-compact lattice QED in four dimensions with staggered fermions of charges 1 and −1/2 is investigated. The renormalized charges are determined and found to be in agreement with perturbation theory. This is an indication that there is no continuum limit with non-vanishing renormalized gauge coupling, and that the theory has a validity bound for every finite value of the r...

Chiral symmetry breaking in (2+1) dimensional QED

We study dynamical mass generation in QED in (2+1) dimensions using Hamiltonian lattice methods. We use staggered fermions, and perform simulations with explicit dynamical fermions in the chiral limit. We demonstrate that a recently developed method to reduce the fermion sign problem can successfully be applied to this problem. Our results are in agreement with both the strong coupling expansio...
